10 Things to do in Minot when it’s FREEZING

Living in North Dakota means a cold winter is inevitable, but that doesn’t mean you have to stay in your house until March.

Here are 10 things to do in Minot when it’s colder than the North Pole:

HOCKEY

Winter is hockey season and up north we love hockey. Minot is home to the Minot Minotauros, a junior ice hockey team playing in the North American Hockey League. The Minotauros won the Central Division in earlier 2018 and are looking to go even farther in 2019! If that isn’t enough hockey for you, Minot is also home to the Minot State University men’s and women’s hockey teams! All teams play at the Maysa Arena in the Pepsi Rink.

LIGHTS IN OAK PARK

Every year right after Thanksgiving, Christmas lights are set up by local businesses in Minot’s Oak Park. You can drive through the park with the family, and stay warm in the car, looking at lots of different types of Christmas scenes while listening to Christmas music on 99.9 on the radio.

GET CREATIVE @ MARGIE’S

Margie’s Art Glass Studio located in Downtown Minot has an entire room dedicated to ceramic painting. They have pottery in all different shape and designs and a whole wall full of colors to choose from. During the holiday season, Margie’s is stocked with Christmas pottery to paint and give as presents or to keep for yourself. This is a great place to get out of the cold and spend quality time with friends and family.

LASER TAG

Kids start going stir crazy at home pretty early in the winter, let them run off their energy with laser tag at Planet Pizza. They have a decked out course for up to 20 players to play on teams or all vs. all. Also, during the week during lunch, Planet Pizza has a pretty delicious buffet.

LOCAL COFFEE SHOPS

Stay warm with warm coffee at one of our many coffee shops. Coffee lovers know that not all coffee is the same, try a new place every time you go for coffee. You might be pleasantly surprised. Broadway Bean and Bagel, Classic Rock Coffee, and With Room Coffee, just to name a few local shops. Try some of their special holiday drinks!

NORTH HILL BOWL

Bowling is a perfect family outing in the winter. North Hill Bowl in Minot has everything you need, all you have to do is walk through the door. They have a restaurant inside and they will bring your food right to the lane you’re bowling at. They also have the Lucky Strike Lounge as well! North Hill Bowl is a great way to get out of the house when it’s 5 degrees outside or colder.

SPLASHDOWN WATERPARK

Bear with me, it is an INDOOR waterpark. Splashdown Super Slides is located in Dakota Square Mall. It is the largest indoor water park in the mid-west region with three huge slides, a large pool, a kiddie splash area, and a spacious hot tub. Another way to stay out of the cold, but still, act like it’s summer.

COOKING CLASS

You can learn to cook dishes from all over the world with the classes at Minot’s Gourmet Chef, a culinary superstore. They have classes every week and the chefs give you the knowledge of the food, the preparation, and the tools you use to cook. They have classes for adults, teens, and kids. Perfect for a date night or girls’ night out.

ICE SKATING

Don’t worry, this is inside too! If you want to enjoy ice skating, but it’s a little tough to do outside during North Dakota winters, there is a solution.  The All Seasons Arena and the Maysa Arena have rinks for public ice skating. You can rent skates at the rink and they have multiple nights a week for open skating.
